The Uinta started out as an experiment that combined the Pah Tempe strap design with the original Wokova straps and a toe post for an extremely stable and rugged sport sandal. The Uinta is great for water hikes and rough terrain but is also stylish enough for everyday wear. Most minimalist sandals are based on the ancient huarache design. The Uinta is unique because instead of having a toe post, the straps create a loop around the toes along with a strap that goes over the front of the foot. This toe loop tension can be adjusted separately to give the big toe freedom of movement. The toe loop can be pulled flat and worn without the loop for situations where socks may be desired, such as a chilly morning on a backpacking trip.

Templates Chart

Template 1: Average width, toe line curves downward from the big toe toward the smallest toe. This is our most common template.

Template 2: Toe line rounded in front. Slightly wide forefoot and average heel width.

Template 3: This template is for those with flat feet or fallen arches. Toe line curves downward toward small toe.

Template 4: This template is for those with a narrower foot. Toe line curves downward from big toe. This is a common template for women.

Template 5: This template is for those with a narrower foot. Toe line curves downward from big toe. This is a common template for women.

Just What I Was Needing!

I have been on the barefoot journey for about 3-4 years now, and had bought my first pair of *thin* barefoot sandals last year. While they worked great, I could tell I had reached the point in my journey where I needed a pair of sandals that were more flexible, than the ones I was currently wearing. I looked around for a pair that was adorable and durable, and ended up buying a pair of the normal Uinta. But after receiving them, discovered they were a little narrow in the toe area. Unshoes took the first pair back with no problem, made a full refund, and worked with me to create a custom pair. Sean was especially helpful going out of his way to make sure I was happy with my shoes. These are the most comfortable pair of barefoot shoes I own! The flexible sole was exactly what I needed, and I have wore them literally everywhere from woods to work inside. I am blown away by the quality of the shoes, speed of delivery, and AMAZING customer service! I will for sure be ordering from Unshoes again!!

Perfect! (And wonderful for flat feet, too)

After falling in love with my Foragers (2 pairs - Grey and Brown), I ordered the Custom Uinta 2.0 sandals.
The straps are comfortable, easy to adjust, and stay in place. The buckle sits well, where it really can't be felt and makes it easy to fasten and unfasten the sandals without losing your fit/adjustments.

The outsole has great traction and seems like it will be quite durable as well.

The reason I went with the custom option instead of the standard Uinta is because I have very flat feet. Many sandals are harder to fit or be comfortable in. "Traditional" sandals often have arch support and "barefoot/minimalist" still often have a contoured cutout under the "arch" which can affect how they fit and feel. I like that Unshoes has sole shape options and printable templates for all of them in every size. That's more work for them, but I printed out 2 shapes (in my "usual" size) that seemed likely candidates, chose template 3, and then printed out 1/2 size down, as I sometimes like a shorter sandal to avoid catching the edge on anything. The toe strap placements also gives you another option to perfect the fit. When I received my custom sandals, everything was exactly as I would expect from using the templates.

The materials and the workmanship that go into making these sandals are amazingly high quality!

Considering the quality and the perfect fit, the slightly higher price of the custom option is completely worth it to me!

SIZE CHART

Our sizing is based on standard shoe sizing and is typically true to size, however, we suggest measuring your foot and and using the shoe size chart below to determine the best size for you. Stand with your heel against a wall and place a ruler or measuring tape along your foot to measure the total distance from the wall to the longest part of your foot. If you already own a pair of Unshoes sandals, you will likely wear the same size but please check the chart to make sure.
