Like our original sandal design, the Unshoes Forager is based on ancient footwear with contemporary design elements. This moccasin-inspired shoe is designed as a highly versatile shoe that can perform in a wide variety of situations. It features a 4mm rubber sole and a removable insert with 7mm total stack height. It is made with oil-tanned leather which is very supple, durable, flexible, and molds to the unique shape of each foot. These shoes are extremely soft, supple, and lightweight which makes them some of the most comfortable and minimal shoes out there!

As always, our shoes are flexible, zero-drop, have a foot-shaped toe box, and are made in the USA. The leather has a short break-in period, so it is ok if they are a little snug when you first put them on. Leather is an extremely flexible and pliable material and will relax and stretch some with wear.

Almost perfect

Comfy, cute, zero drop, wonderfully soft and supple leather, no break in time.

I emailed my measurements prior to purchasing about sizing, and sized down to an W8 when I am typically a W9/40 in most other brands (Groundies, Whitins, Duchess and Fox). I am glad I did as the mocs fit snug but not tight and after a month of regular wear are conforming nicely to my feet. My feet are 24.7 cm x 9.5 cm, high volume, plateau toes. My only gripe with the Foragers is I don't think they are made for those of us with truly high volume feet. I took the insoles out immediately and even without insoles my heel and sides of my feet feel JUST barely contained. I emailed about this and was advised to tighten the cord to keep the shoe on, which I of course did. For those of us with fat/high volume feet a 1/4in more around the heel and back foot would be ideal for me to feel truly secure. Maybe after even more wear and leather softening I won't notice that as much. Overall, very happy with my purchase as these are super comfortable and I LOVE having a slip on shoe with decent tread for pavement walks or just a quick trip out to the compost pile w/out getting damp feet like a non-soled leather moc.

Perfect for my needs

I recently bought my third or fourth pair of Foragers. Over the years I have chosen smaller and smaller sizes, because the leather stretches, especially if it gets wet. I wear them without the insole to get a true barefoot experience. I chose my latest pair to feel snug but not tight (without insoles) when I first tried them on. After a week the shoes feel already looser. The cinch fastener are not reliable after a while, but can be removed and the elastic strings can be tied at that point. I don't use the cinch, I keep the elastic string loose and the shoes stay on my feet without issue. I used my last pair of Foragers outdoors in the garden and loved that I could just slip them on. They were beat up, stretched out and not pretty when I retired them after a few years, but sole and leather had held up really well. I wear my new Foragers constantly, I don't want to take them off, they are so comfortable! I am very picky about shoes, especially about having a true barefoot experience. I appreciate that the insoles are removable, since I never use insoles. Apart from the Forager Unshoes I wear Softstar Shoes and Xero sandals, all in size 6 now.
I would keep in mind that the leather stretches. My foot measures 9 1/8 inches (a little over 23 cm) and according to the size chart I should choose at least a size 6.5, if not a size 7. However I chose a size 6 this time and am very happy. With insoles removed they fit perfect after a few days of wear.

Perfect for flat feet!

I wrote a more complete review yesterday and didn't see it posted yet...but I wanted to add that the Forager models (I have both the brown oiled leather and the grey Suede ones) are the MOST COMFORTABLE closed-toe shoes I've EVER found in regards to my having flat feet.

While most barefoot/minimalist shoes do not have arch support, they often still have a contoured shape to the body of the shoe and/or the outsole. This can cause pressure or you're standing on the edge of the outsole or just have a gap under your arch.

The outsole of the Forager actually covers the whole area under the arch of the foot and none of these common problems with other shoes exist at all!

This is a huge reason I have also ordered the Custom Uinta sandal - to have a similar shaped footbed that isn't cut away under the arch of my foot. And I will be checking Unshoes first when the need to replace other shoes or sandals arises.

Exceeds Expectations!

I purchased the Forager Brown because I have always loved moccasins and finding some hand-made in the USA by a minimalist footwear company was too good to pass up.
As stated in the description, the fit does start a little tighter than you might expect, but they are meant to be that way because the leather does stretch and conform to your foot. After a very short amount of wear, these fit perfectly and sizing is correct, having ordered my usual shoe size.

Other commercially available moccasins generally have some kind of overly hot insulation/lining, stiff soles, and even may have a raised heel or other unwanted features. I love that the Forager Brown has a natural foot shape, no drop, no arch support, and a very flexible sole (the whole shoe is flexible in all directions). The outsole is very flexible, has great traction, and seems like it is going to be very durable.

I bought these the same weekend I also bought the Forager in Grey suede. I plan to mostly use the suede ones around the house. The Brown pair is made of an oiled leather that should be fine if it gets a little wet every once in a while and should also be easy to clean when needed. I will be wearing these to walk the dog, casual wear, and probably even take them along camping.
I am also now getting the Custom Uinta sandal, and can't wait for them to be made and shipped!

SIZE CHART

Our sizing is based on standard shoe sizing and is typically true to size, however, we suggest measuring your foot and and using the shoe size chart below to determine the best size for you. Stand with your heel against a wall and place a ruler or measuring tape along your foot to measure the total distance from the wall to the longest part of your foot. If you already own a pair of Unshoes sandals, you will likely wear the same size but please check the chart to make sure.
